Good news! Hank was adopted on 03/30/2013!

Hank3

Meet Hank (#0275)! This handsome young Aussie boy is around 2 years old and weighs about 55 pounds. Hank is mostly red with a white trail from his mouth down to his chest. He is housetrained, kennel trained, rides well in vehicles, gets along great with other dogs and cats, loves belly rubs, and has a perfect record with his foster parents. Hand is current on all vaccinations and will be neutered before adoption.

Hank is extremely well-behaved. He has never had an accident in the house, or chewed anything he was not supposed to. Hank loves bones and rawhides. He is not that interested in most of the toys around the house and likes to stay close while his foster brother fetches the tennis ball. Hank is very good at matching energy lievels, he loves to play but is not overly energetic compared to breed standard. Most of the time Hank can be found lounging close to his people. He also loves to play with his five month olf foster brother and will let him win most of the time.

Hank2

Hank loves his people and is a very good listener. Hank knows sit, lay down, come, up, potty, kennel, and is learning more all the time. Hank would love a yeard to play in, but can escape from low fences so will need to be watched carefully; a highter chain link or privacy fence would be idea. He is quiet when in his kennel and will only signal if he needs to go out. Hank has been sleeping out of his kennel at night and has done very well.

Hank is currently located in Iowa City and is waiting for his forever family to come meet him. If you might be interested in learning more about this dog, please email us at info@protegerescue.org. While we welcome your questions about this dog, all adopters are required to complete a Protege Adoption Application before being considered to adopt him; his adoption fee is $250. (listed 03/22/13)

Bravo for Zoey! She was adopted on 03/30/2013!

Zoey2Introducing Zoey (#0263)! Zoey came in with 3 other Shelties from a hobby breeder who was looking to get out of the business and downsize the number of Shelties she had at her home. Although loved in their previous home, they all needed a little extra TLC. She is a 5 year old sable merle female Sheltie.

Zoey has been adjusting to life away from the other Shelties she grew up with in her previous home. She gets along well with the resident dogs in her temporary home, and looks to them for cues on what to do and how to react to things. Zoey was around outdoor cats in her original home, and has paid no attention to the indoor cats in her temporary home. Zoey has a moderate activity level, she enjoys being out and about, but she likes to just hang out as well. Zoey has not shown any tendencies towards barking, and has actually been very quiet even when the resident dogs in the home are barking.

Zoey3Though previously an outdoor dog, Zoey has not had any accidents in her foster home, and keeps her crate clean as well. Zoey goes outside to potty either in the fenced back yard, or on a long line. She is not quite comfortable pottying on a regular leash most of the time. Although very shy, it is apparent that Zoey wants to be loved and will warm up more and more with time to adjust to her new surroundings. Initially in her foster home Zoey had a leash on at all times, and if she wouldn’t come close to her foster mom or dad, they could take the leash and lead her where she needed to go or to get her out of her crate. Today Zoey comes gleefully prancing out of her crate and loves wrestling with the resident dogs in the home. Zoey loves attention, and now eagerly approaches her foster family to be petted.or cats in her original home, and has paid no attention to the indoor cats in her temporary home. Zoey has a moderate activity level, she enjoys being out and about, but she likes to just hang out as well. Zoey has not shown any tendencies towards barking, and has actually been very quiet even when the resident dogs in the home are barking.

Zoey1Zoey will likely have some amount of regression when she initially transitions to her new home. She will require a fenced yard due to being a flight risk. We recommend a home without small children. Zoey will do best in a home with a secure/confident resident dog to show her the ropes in her new home. Zoey has shown us through her progress in her foster home that she will make an affectionate, sweet companion for a forever home that is prepared to shower her with positive reinforcement, to have the patience to gain her trust, and to encourage her while she builds confidence and comes out of her shell.

Zoey is spayed, has been tested for heartworms, and is on flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. She is up to date on vaccinations. Zoey is currently being fostered in Cedar Rapids. Roscoe was adopted 3/22/13

Roscoe1

This handsome guy is Roscoe (#0271), a 2-3 year old black-tri Australian Shepherd. Don’t be fooled by his age, Rosco is all puppy still! He has proven to be very active, constantly wanting to play and fool around. He loves toys and always chooses good things to chew, but will try to chew on dog beds if given the opportunity. He currently lives with two cats and tolerates them well, though he can be a bully at times.

Roscoe1

He is very smart (he learned down in about 20 minutes), he knows how to kennel, sit and shake. He also knows what NO means when correcting his puppy behaviors. He is completely kennel trained and we believe that he has the house training figured out now, too!ill! He has proven to be very active, constantly wanting to play and fool around. He loves toys and always chooses good things to chew, but will try to chew on dog beds if given the opportunity. He currently lives with two cats and tolerates them well, though he can be a bully at times.

Roscoe3

Rosco needs something to do constantly so his ideal home would be an active family that can keep him worn out both mentally and physically!  He would love a fenced in yard as he needs some work with recall (he gets distracted easily) and he would love a dog friend to keep him entertained. He can be too rough with young children and so he needs a family without children or a family with teens.

Rosco is up to date on his vaccinations and is on a heartworm and flea preventative. He has been neutered. Roscoe is currently living in Cedar Rapids.
